In today’s day and age, Video Marketing is bigger then ever and only growing! In fact, according to Forbes.com, over 500 million people watch video over Facebook alone daily! It also tells us that over 80% of all consumer traffic will be from video alone in only a matter of 4 years!

If you are a business owner of any kind, just know that you need to be ahead of the curve if you want to grow. Weather that means you buy some equipment and do it yourself, or hire someone to do it for you, Video marketing of some kind is extremely important in brand awareness, getting more sales, and establishing yourself or your business as a brand.

Now that you know the importance of Video Marketing, let’s talk a bit about how to start doing it yourself and if it’s right for you.

Start off by asking yourself these questions.

(1) What resources do you have?

  • Do you have a video production team or will you be doing it yourself?
  • Do you have the budget to hire a freelance Videographer? How about to purchase the equipment and software to create the video yourself?
  • How much time do you have to put towards filming, editing, and promoting your video(s)?
  • If you don’t know the first thing about creating videos, do you have the time (and patience) to take courses, or teach yourself how to use filming equipment and editing software?

I have been doing professional Videography for over 5 years now and have learned a lot from it. First off, it can be very expensive. For example, my equipment has cost me over 6,000 dollars from the last 5 years, and I am a College student haha. Just know it adds up and you will always find something you don’t have and end up actually needing. Also, it takes a lot of time to learn and practice. Like most things in life, it’s not just something that you can learn a little about and automatically be good at. It takes hours on hours on hours of practice to even get decent at. You have to learn about your camera, and most importantly your editing software. It sounds like a lot but don’t get discouraged! Everyone is different, and if you just want a really simple video you can defenelty make it look decent without putting in too much time. Know when you hire a freelance Videogropher you are paying for all the equipment they have, the knowledge they have resulting from all the practice they did to get as good as they are, and the time it takes them to make the video. This is why it is usually gets pretty expensive.

Also know that your video can reflect on your business in either an extremely good or extremely bad way. If your videos are very bad quality and look terrible, it shows your business isn’t very good and people will leave your page instantly. Now i’m not saying that if you have a bad video your business is automatically bad, but that how most people now a days see it.

(2) Where does your marketing funnel need the most help?

What should your marketing videos contain? Look at your marketing funnel, and evaluate where a video could help you the most.

If you’re not sure what your first marketing video should contain, take a look at your marketing funnel, and evaluate where a video could be of the greatest help. Before you make a video you need to know why you need one in the first place.

“Company explainer videos are good options, but too often people put a lot of time and resources into that and then don’t create anything afterward, because they didn’t have a comprehensive plan,” says Conley. “Or, they create that first — before they have any real experience — and it’s not as great as it could be … and will probably have to be redone later.”

If you need a refresher of the Inbound Methodology, here it is:

Ideally, you will have videos at each one of these stages, but if you have limited time and resources, find which one that will help boost your business the most.

Examples of all of the above:

Under the “Attract” stage, you could make an eye catching video explaining what you business is, just increasing brand awareness.

Under the “Convert” stage, you can make a video showing how to use your product or service helping people take the next step by making them more interested in your product or service. This can easily move them onto the sales coloum being close.

Under the “Close” stage, you can make a video with customer testimonials. It’s simple, if you’re having trouble closing leads and making the sale, just make a video of customers sharing there experiences with you. This works more then you might think. This is simply because people just trust other people. How many times have you watched car reviews before considering buying a car, or reviews on tech products before buying? I know I almost always watch reviews and customer testimonials before buying anything over 100$.

Lastly, under the “Delight” stage, you can make a (or multiple) how to video(s). When having trouble delighting customers with your customer success team, this might work great for you. People want answers, and want them fast!

(3) Where are you posting?

Make sure to take advantage of everything we have. Most of the time, depending on your target audience, posting on Social Media and on your website works a lot better then T.V. and can be so much cheaper if not free! Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, YouTube etc. are all such big platforms and very important to have and post on frequently as a business. That is for another Blog though! For now, post your videos where you see fit and watch the cash flow in!

Does it seem like something you will do yourself or hire someone for? Either way just know that in a growing industry, take advantage of how easy it can be to make decent videos for your business!
